Super Easy Peppermint Tray and Bowl

Tuesday, December 3, 2013

peppermint, candy, red swirls, peppermint bowl, spearmints, yellow candy, blue, purple candy
It's the most wonderful time of the year and what better way to celebrate with family and friends than to make peppermint trays and bowls to put your favorite cookies or candy on. This is a so simple to create and takes very little time make. What you need is a bag of peppermints and parchment paper,  I purchased mine at the Dollar Store. One of the cheapest projects to create. You can use spearmints, peppermints, even the colored candies that are yellow, orange, purple....the possibilities are endless. I used the peppermints because that is all the Dollar Store had..haha.

Anyway, turn on the oven to 350 degrees. Arrange the mints in the shape you want. Spacing them about a 1/2 inch apart. I made my candy tray in the shape of a circle.  I kept my mints in the oven for about 9 minutes. Make sure to take out the pan once the mints are melted together, because you do not want them to burn. I then picked up the parchment paper and placed it on the cooling rack for about 2 minutes. At the point, it should be hard enough to put a spatula underneath to remove from the parchment paper. Then voila! There is your edible serving tray.

To create the candy bowl, repeat all the same steps as you would the tray except when the candy is removed out of the oven and still hot, pick a small bowl and turn it upside down and pick up the parchment paper that has the candy on it and lay it over the bowl. The candy should not be touching the bowl. Then carefully mold it around the container. I used pot holders to push the candy around the bowl, because the candy is so hot. Once you have the shape you like, let the candy cool down. Then remove the parchment paper. Now you will have a cool looking candy bowl that I am sure will be a conversation starter at any party.

Have fun with the easy challenge.
